biggest loser recipes

On MAY 11TH CFS will begin the Biggest Loser Competition. Contestants will be weighed, measured and have to do three WODs over a three day period. This will allow us to tally and score an individuals performance so that someone can't just lose 40 pounds and take home the big prize. We are looking for individuals to lose pounds, inches and gain overall athletic performance.

The cost of the contest will be $5. Top male and female competitors will receive $100 plus one month free at CFS! This will be a personal achievement (no teams) and a way for all of us to get dialed into our eating habits. I would like everyone to encourage one another, talk about what you are eating, how is it effecting your WODs and of course at least give it a try. To help everyone I will post recipes of both zone and paleo meals. This weekend those interested should start their healthy grocery shopping, and start planning your strategy some ideas:

MEATS/Protein: lean beef, ground turkey, tofu, eggs, non-fat cottage cheese, non-fat string cheese, fish, sea food, tuna and chicken (yogurt is a protein, however it is also a carb, same with milk).

Carbs: veggies (stay away from white starchy veggies), buy: asparagus, lettuce, celery, broccoli, spinach, cucumber, bell pepper and sweet potatoes. Fruit (stay away from bananas and raisin) buy: apples, oranges, pineapple, grapes, kiwis and strawberries. If you want to keep grains in your diet try steel cut oats for your oatmeal and wheat breads (check the labels).

Fats: nuts (almonds, cashews, macadamia), avocado, olive oil, bacon (in moderation!), peanut butter and light mayo.

Now some of you maybe wondering what's wrong with bananas- they are loaded with sugar, now if your choice is a banana or a Milky Way, have the banana. If you are looking for potassium, kiwis offer more potassium then bananas (and Fathia recommends eating the skin if possible).

So, as you head out to the store, words of advice: stick to the parameter of the store, avoid going down the isles (most food found here is processed), read the labels (1 block equals: 9g carbs, 7g protein and 1.5g fats), if following paleo remember to choose lean products and stay away from gluten (breads/pasta/rice).

These food options are just ideas, visit ZONE or Robb Wolf's websites for more.

REMEMBER, YOU ARE NOT ALONE! Fathia, "DOC", Josh, Cindy, DJ and myself are more then willing to answer questions or help you out. Fathia has even offered a free one on one for those that attended the meeting last night to start the contest. For those of you that missed the meeting but still want that nutritional edge contact Fathia for some personal coaching for a small fee.

On a side note, I understand not everyone is "trying to loose weight" and this might not be something you are interested in. I will tell you from experience, eating better (following zone/paleo) helps your post WOD recovery, many claim it helps them reach new PRs and feel better while working out. Your nutrition should be important, so even if you aren't interested in the game, I encourage you to try some of the recipes and learn a bit more about what it means to eat "healthy". Keep us updated on your transformation as well.

PS. None of us made it to tomorrows events, we all feel we gave our everything and held nothing back. Thank you everyone for your support. We will be going to watch tomorrow starting at 9am, should wrap up around 1pm. Source: http://www.crossfitsolano.com/crossfit_solano/2009/05/biggest-loser.html
